Don't forget to mention

Study end
- The app will automatically stop collecting data after a pre-set number of days. Participants will be notified when the app stops working and can safely remove the app.

Battery life
- Participants will most likely experience a decrease in battery life with Behapp. This will automatically revert back to normal when the study ends.

WiFi required
- The apps require access to the internet through a known WiFi network before they can upload any data.

Privacy policy
- The Behapp privacy policy can be found here. The public website also has a dedicated section for participants highlighting important parts from the policy.

Don't disable the app
- Participants sometimes have the habit of disabling apps by "swiping them up". Please instruct them not do to this with Behapp. This will cause gaps in the data that is collected.

Step 1. Download

Open the (Safari) browser and enter the following url: https://beh.app, or scan the QR code above with the camera app of the phone. Behapp for iOS requires iOS version 15. Our website will determine whether the iPhone is compatible with this minimum requirement. iOS 15 is supported by the iPhone 6S (2015) and newer.
Tap Go to App Store.
Step 2. App Store

Tap Get to install the app on a participant’s iPhone, continue by tapping Open.
Step 3. Activation of the app

Tap Let's get started.
Step 4. Activation code

Enter the 8-digit activation code as created in the Behapp administrative portal.
Step 5. Confirm consent

The participant must confirm that they consent to participating with the study. Tap Confirm.
Step 6. Location data

Behapp needs access to location data to function correctly. Tap Continue and then tap Allow While Using App to allow Behapp to access the phone’s location data.
Step 7. Motion data

Behapp needs access to motion data to function correctly. Tap Ok.
Step 8. Push notifications

Behapp needs permission to send push notifications. This permission enables us to notify a participant of pending questionnaires. Tap Continue and then tap Allow.
Step 9. Time window

We prefer to send participants questionnaires within a time window of their own choosing. Please specify a start and end time where we can send the participant notifications for pending questionnaires. Tap Confirm to continue.
Step 10. Finish activating

Tap Continue to finish activating Behapp on the phone.
Step 11. Settings

For Behapp to function properly we need permission to access location data on a regular basis, even when Behapp is not opened on screen. Open the Settings app on the phone and scroll down until you see Behapp. Tap on Behapp and then tap on Location. Enable background location data access by tapping on Always. The app wil now show you a notification asking you to return to the app.
Step 12. Restart the app

Lastly, make sure to completely restart the app by forcefully stopping the app and subsequently relaunching the app from the app drawer. The app can be forcefully stopped by swiping the app up from the app switcher. The app switcher can be opened by double tapping the home button or by swiping up from the bottom of the device on FaceID equipped iPhones.
Step 13. Popup

Instruct participants to be mindful of a popup asking them if they want to Allow “Behapp'' to also use their location even when they are not using the app? This popup may appear at a random moment after activating the app. Participants should always tap Change to Always Allow.
Phone settings checklist
Please check the following settings after installing and activating Behapp, or if you find that the app is malfunctioning:

- Open the settings app
- Scroll down untill you find the Behapp app
- Location → Always
- Motion & Fitness → Enabled
- Background App Refresh → Enabled
- Mobile Data → Enabled
Background App refresh
- Open the settings app
- Find the General section
- Background App Refresh → On
- Check that the Behapp entry on this screen is also → Enabled
Location services
- Open the settings app
- Find the Privacy & Security section
- Find the Location Services section
- Location Services → On
- Check that the Behapp entry on this screen has permission → Always
